Day 6 - Off to Rome

I got to sleep in a bit this morning because we didn't have an official class. I finished packing up then a large group of us (most everyone from the program came) headed out with Mark to see a few monuments that we haven't seen yet. Little church by the cathedral.

I don't remember what everything is, but it is all pretty awesome anyway.
Hadrian's Arch.
Temple of Zeus.
Another temple. Cannot remember the name.

Then we branched off. Before heading back to the hotel, a few of us stopped inside a monastery.
No pictures inside, but it was really cool. It contained a lot of icons and all of the walls were covered with decoration of some sort. It was pretty cool. After looking around for a bit and talking with the man in charge there, we headed to the hotel, finished up packing, and checked out.

Then off to the airport. The metro ride there was very smooth. It was once we got there and started checking in that anxiety started setting in. Most airlines allow a carry-on and a personal item. Well Easyjet does not. So I had to stuff my purse into my bag. Luckily, I had enough room. Some of the girls ended having to check their bags and pay the extra cost. As we waited in line to board, we were all nervous that our bags were going to be too big, but we were all just fine. I really did not want to check my bag. One of the girls was forced to check her bag when she came to Greece and she still hasn't gotten it back yet. She has had to buy stuff here in Europe. No way was I going to let that happen to me. But it didn't happen and all is well :) We got all boarded (we got to choose our seats so we got to sit by eachother!) and then headed to Italia!

The flight was pretty uneventful. Once we got to the airport, we got on a train and rode to the end of the line. Then we got on the blessed metro and to it to our apartments. Yes, we have apartments instead of hotels. SO nice. I will take pictures later. Then we went around the corner and found a pizza place. It was very strange. We pointed to what we wanted. Then they heated the whole pizza up (it was in a squarish shape), cut it into square pieces, and handed the entire plate to you. Very strange. And the price was based on weight. It was just weird. But we all shared and it was pretty good. Not too impressive, but I had some zuchinni pizza and margherita pizza and pea pizza. It was nice. Then, as an entire group, we headed back into Rome and Mark just showed us around. Some pictures to whet your appetite. There will be so many more to come.

Then we split off. Several of us went and got some gelato.

On our way, we saw the column of Marcus Aurelius! Shamra was pretty excited :)
And this is the gelato place. It was amazing! They have a couple dozen flavors and it was so difficult to choose. Oh, I love, love, gelato.

Then we headed back to our apartments and settled in. That's all for tonight :)
