Day 40 - Brugge

Today we had a surprisingly great breakfast. It was just bread but it was so good! There were several different kinds served with some jam or speculos (a type of peanut butter, sort of). It was wonderful. I finally ate my fill at breakfast. After we finished breakfast and the people in the other hotels met up with us, we headed out to the city. We saw a monastery type area on our way to the museum this morning.

Then to the Groening museum. I took pictures on the way there because it is so beautiful :)

In the museum, which did not, surprise surprise, allow pictures, we Van Eyck, Van der Weyden, and Memling, along with many other northern artists. We took many notes then headed back into the city. Before going to another museum, we saw a Michelangelo sculpture in a church.

Catholic Musettes :)

Then to the Memling museum. We saw a lot of Memlings works along with some fake Boschs and other things. Pretty cool. After the freewrite, we headed back out to the city. We first went to the chocolate museum.
We were unsure about going in because it cost five euro. Also, it just told the history of chocolate instead of showing us how they make it. Lame. Even still, we thought we might go in. But then an English family came out and we asked what they thought about it. They laughed and exchanged looks. Then they replied that they wouldn't go again. So that made up our minds for good. So we left to go to the lace museum. Much better choice :)
We couldn't take pictures on the inside. It was all lace, some doilies, some dresses, etc. It was fun to see. Then we went into the demonstration room and saw people making lace. Amazing!

So crazy. I wish I had a video to show you how fast they did it all.
The old women.
And the young girls, all crafting amazing pieces of lace!

Then we went out to get us some real belgium chocolate :) We went into this one store where all the chocolate was named after music. I found a melodie chocolate there (my sister's name). It was marzipan with orange. I didn't take a picture of it, but I took a picture of the other ones that I got.

J'aime le chocolat. So delicious.

We walked around Bruges for a little while after that.

We went to Vespers at a nun church. I was so tired and their voices were so soothing that I nodded off the entire time.

Then we went back to the hotel to relax for a little while because they aren't really any other museums to go to. After some rest, we went back out. First, we went and saw Elisabeth's awful hostile! Glad we weren't there for more than a couple days. I feel really bad for her. Then we went on an adventure to find food. Luck was not with us that evening. We kept going down the wrong streets. We found some tasty looking food but it was too expensive. Then we found a cheap place and went in. We sat down on dirty chairs and got equally dirty menus handed to us. The waiter was hovering right by us. The cook was picking his nose and the server was eating and licking her fingers. It was disgusting. We could not stay there so we got up and left. The people made some comments but we walked away quickly. Uck. So then we walked some more and found a really delicious (and clean) place that was also cheap. We sat for five minutes or so. Then a waiter came out and said that they weren't serving customers anymore. It was about 7! I don't know why they stopped serving customers so early. We finally ended up at Pasta Presto, a cheap and quite tasty pasta place.

The food was great! We walked leisurely back to the hotel.
Lace map of Bruges.

Coke bottle windows.

Then we walked across the Lake of Love Bridge.

We found a forest/park place on the other side.

After walking Elisabeth back to her hostile, we returned to the Lake of Love to see the evening lights.

Then back to the hotel, this time for the night.
