Day 19 - Ravenna

We took two trains today to get to Ravenna, taking about three hours. I finished Hunger Games on the first train, then tried to sleep on the second one. Didn't work. And I tried so hard. Oh well. We finally arrived in Ravenna. We went to San Apollinaire Nuovo first.

There used to be people in between the columns but they were taken out. But if you look closely, you can still see hands of people on the columns.

I don't actually know where these next set of pictures are from, but I'll include them anyway.

Then out to the Archbishop's museum.

No pictures in there.

After that, we went into an Orthodox baptistry.

Then we went to the Basilica di S. Vitale.

Pretty amazing.

Then to the mausoleum of Galla Placidia.

So cool to see the mosaics so close!

Then we went to an Arian baptistery.

And that was it for Ravenna. We came back, got food and gelato, and ended our day.

I love the billowing clouds in the first picture, and the sun flare in the 4th picture down.

That is funny that they removed the people from the columns, but left the hands there!
